Relaxation Techniques

Sunset on the beachThe goal of a relaxation technique is to reduce tension and physiological arousal. Muscle tension, sympathetic arousal, and metabolic states are some of the psychophysiological measures that are targeted. By optimizing psychophysiological and physical states, the body is able to function properly, and perform repairs and healing without interference. Herbert Benson coined the term, "relaxation response" to refer to the body’s ability to heal and repair when in this particular physiological state.
